Upcoming Gigs
  • TBD
The dates are the 4th Tuesday of each month from 6:00-8:30 pm, and are all to be held in the Libra Conference Room at Husson University unless otherwise noted. These gigs are based on your feedback and what can affect you today in a practical way! These will shift if we get a big-named speaker to come to town, but we thought it was a good idea to lay out a plan now so you can set up your calendars in advance.

What would you like to see for the rest of 2010? Send a note to Greg or Jeff!

Did you know there are different categories of design patterns? Rob Hale will review a couple of design patterns that fall within the Creational patterns category. You've probably seen the Singleton pattern used along the way, but are you familiar with some of the pitfalls of a poorly implemented Singleton? Not pretty. We'll discuss them. Additionally, we'll review two flavors of the Factory pattern: the Simple Factory and the Abstract Factory. How they differ and when each is appropriate will be covered.

Rob Hale has spent 16 years in the software industry doing everything from support through design and programming. He has worked on systems used in a variety of industries including health and human services and on-line retail. Rob is currently a Senior Software Engineer with MyWebGrocer in Colchester, VT. His blog is found at bigpigvt.blogspot.com.

News - August 6, 2010

  • CodeCamps -- There are two CodeCamps coming up soon. Sept 11 has the Vermont.NET User Group having theirs (right Rob Hale?). And Oct 2 is the Waltham CodeCamp. Remember that these are BY developers for developers. The speakers are folks just like you and me. Get out there and talk about your passions in coding! It isn't about .NET, nor is it a Microsoft thing. Into robotics? Into AI? Digging Silverlight, VS2010 or other MS technologies/tools? Talk about them! And if you aren't into speaking, you need to go experience a day listening to all this stuff...well worth it. Free. Can't beat it.
  • Web Site Redesign -- By the end of September we will have a new site and a new home! The URL will be the same but we will be taking advantage of a great deal that Kentico and Applied Innovations have put together to give .NET user groups like ours a kick butt set of CMS tools plus free site hosting. If you are interested in helping manage or maintain the site, let Greg know so he can get you involved! It should be a fun, helpful and more interactive upgrade to our site.
  • Where's The Beef? -- We hear you! We have very little for slide decks and presentations and code from our meetings on our site. We will be working over the next few months to fill in the blanks and get the goods out there. Thanks for your patience and we're glad we are providing practical and helpful content during our gigs!
  • Social Sites -- Do you use Twitter, LinkedIn or other sites to talk technology? Join any of these groups or follow these on Twitter and let us know who you are out there:
